Artists in the Kitchen From 2024 to 2025, Arts, Culture and Engagement is hosting a pilot project at the Kitsilano Community Centre focused on the cultural and creative practices associated with food.Kitsilano Community Centre Association is excited to be a part of a pilot project focusing on the cultural and creative practices associated with food with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Arts, Culture and Engagement team for 2024 to 2024!

This kitchen residency encourages interactions between artists and community members in a local kitchen setting. Artists invite community members to collaborate. Even those who don’t identify as artists can take on roles such as:

  • Creators
  • Producers
  • Performers
  • Active audiences

This project uses the community kitchen to explore how food—its cultivation, preparation, consumption, and presentation—serves as a form of cultural and creative expression. Our goal is to highlight the community kitchen as a cultural space.

Across all cultures, food can:

  • Bring people together
  • Spark memories of home or away
  • Inspire creativity and joy
  • Initiate discussion, whether around a dinner table or in a fragrant herb garden
