Senior Care and Family Caregivers: Options & Knowledge

April-2 to April-2, 2020 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

There is no question that with an aging population the subject of senior home care is on the minds of many Canadian seniors and their adult children. A paper written by Martin Turcotte, a Senior Analyst/Researcher at Statistics Canada, titled Family Caregiving: What are the Consequences? (Stats Can 2013) found that family caregivers who spent at least 2 hours a week caregiving reported more health and psychological problems. For those individuals, juggling their own personal life, work life, family life and taking care of their loved ones was just too overwhelming and exhausting leading to bouts of anxiety, stress and depression. The presentation includes:How to know when to bring in home care servicesHow to access public home care through the health authorityDifferences between public and private pay home care servicesWhat to look for in a good home care provider and what questions to ask
